Industrial Training (MECH 3200) for
· B. Eng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering
· B. Eng (Hons) Manufacturing Engineering
· B.Eng. (Hons.) Mechatronics
The B. Eng course presently offered at the Faculty of Engineering is a four year course (full-time) including about six months of industrial training during the second semester of the third year. The industrial training (MECH 3200) is compulsory but students may decide to postpone the training to any semester of Level 4 or later in case they want to plan their studies over a longer period. The training period normally starts on the 15th January (for Semester 2) and should be completed by end June of the same year.
The students are required to follow a module on Saturdays during the above-mentioned training period. The students registered for the said module will therefore not be able to attend training on Saturdays during the whole period. The students should not be released on any other day during the week to attend lecture/s without a request from the University of Mauritius.
Firm/Company/Organisation who would be interested in providing our students with training in the above mentioned fields are requested to complete the registration form below and submit it to the Industrial Training Coordinator by mail or by post.
The companies may request for more than one student from the same or different programmes. Please feel free to contact the Industrial Training Coordinator or any other academic staff of department in case you need more information concerning our courses.
Academic staff of the department would be very pleased to help your company to prepare a programme of work for the different trainees. The students have to keep a log book on all the works they have performed during their training. The log book must be signed regularly by the Site supervisor to confirm student’s involvement in the company. The student also has to submit a report and to do a formal presentation at the end of the Industrial Training.
The Department will have to give its official approval before any student can start the Industrial Training. All students attached to your company (approved by the Department) are covered by an insurance policy taken by the University of Mauritius.
At the end of the training programme the companies have to submit a Student Appraisal Form for each student giving their assessment of the general performance, attendance, and involvement of the student during his/her stay at your company.
The department looks forward to your support and collaboration to help us in giving the right training to our students. Do not hesitate to contact us (enquiry_mech@uom.ac.mu) for more details.
NOTE: No student can start the Industrial Training (MECH 3200) without an official document (approval) from the University of Mauritius.
