Unlike may manufactured products, textiles have a history as old as man. Yet the textile industry is today in the midst of change following the introduction of novel fibres, new processes for converting them into textile products, and new commercial structures and methods of management. The Department of Textile Technology is linked to an industry which is involved in taking fibres and turning them into fabrics we wear and other soft furnishings in our homes. The Mauritian Textile Industry is rapidly growing into a capital-intensive, scientifically geared industry. Its success will largely depend on the support and effort input from its scientific, technical, industrial, commercial and design communcity. The Department of Textile Technology is preparing the workforce to face the future. |
