The Mission of the Department of French Studies is to explore and transmit the knowledge of French and francophone culture. Through courses, programmes and activities, the Department of French Studies aims to create the best possible environment to cultivate the appreciation of French among students, teachers and the local community.

The Department of French Studies works to achieve a number of aims in the fullfilment of its mission:

1.	To prepare students to understand, read, speak and write French.

2.	To give them an understanding and appreciation of the literature and civilization particular to that language.

3.	To provide them with a comparative element that will enable them to improve communications across cultures and enable them to have a better understanding of the greater francophone community
