Social Work Unit

Mission

The mission of the Unit is to develop world quality education, research and community service to realize the values and principles of social justice, equality and promotion of human welfare.

Staff

There are 2 full-time academic members in the Social Work Unit:

Assoc. Prof. Satinder Ragobur
Mr. Komal Singh Rambaree

Practicing Social Workers from the Public Sector and the NGO sector serve as part time lecturers for Social Work. Social Science subjects are taught by full time academics from the Department and across other faculties of the University.

Courses

It provides opportunities to students to acquire knowledge, skills and competence in:

Social Work Values. The learning goals are to develop an understanding of social work commitment
Understanding of social science theories and social science research methodology. The goal is to develop understanding of human behavior and human society and its functioning and develop a high level competency for information seeking, use of library and computers, skills for analysis of documents and critical assessment of research reports and literature.
Theory and practice for social work interventions at micro, mezzo and macro levels of practice. The goal is to develop knowledge and skills in using a variety of social work intervention methods.
Social work planning and management, including supervision skills.
Internalizing codes of conduct and ethics for professional social work practice and development as a professional practitioner
