The CCE meeting will be held at Le Meridien on Sunday 3rd August 2008 from 9 am to 5 pm.

There will be a drama entitled “CHEMHISTORY PERFORMANCE” as part of the programme of the 20 th ICCE.

AIM:

A presentation of the history of chemistry seen from a social as well as from a scientific point of view. We want to show how expanding of our knowledge gives us the tools to understand the world around us.

OBJECTIVES:

The role of chemistry in the society will make a difference in our view of our surroundings. We will show that chemistry is an exciting and stimulating activity in order to create an interest in science.

Besides the performance may provide chemistry teachers with a new approach in lecturing.

METHOD:

Using spectacular and maybe typical experiments in the form of small plays we will present the development of chemistry from ancient times all the way up to modern times.

Atmospheric pressure (Guericke / Boyle)

The Phlogiston Theory (Becher / Stahl)

Modern chemistry (Lavoisier)

The discovery of oxygen (Scheele / Priestley)

The Periodic Table (Mendelejev)

Atoms (Rutherford / Bohr)

Biochemistry, DNA (Franklin / Watson / Crick)

Our drama presentation will take about one hour and is a combination of a powerpointpresentation and our acting as historical chemists with experiments.
