Professor Soodursun Jugessur, has had an academic career at the University of Mauritius where he is presently the Pro-Chancellor, Chairman of its Council, and the Chairman of the Mauritius Research Council. He is fully committed to social and economic reforms within his country and globally. Besides academic career, his long service within the United Nations system has given him a wide exposure to problems of development, and he wants to serve the global community to ensure peace, harmony, and righteous development.

1. Born in Bon Accueil, Flacq in a family of small planters.

2. Educated in Mauritius, India, Canada, USA, England and Sweden.

3. Has an M.Sc in Physics, and a D.Sc (Doctorate) in Electronic Engineering, Quantum Electronics.

4. Is a Chartered Professional Engineer and Physicist, and a Consultant in Science and Technology.

5. Has served as Professor of Industrial Technology, and Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Mauritius, as well as Chairman of the University of Mauritius Academic Staff Association.

6. Has been Chairman of two Parastatal bodies, CWA and MBC, besides board member of NRB and PAT.

7. Has served the United Nations for 18 years as the Chief of Science and Technology for Africa before retiring.

8. Has served various socio-cultural organizations as Chairman and in various other positions.

9. Has always been socially and politically active in bringing reforms.

10. Has written six books on scientific and technological development and on social issues, as well as various other research publications.

11. He is at present the Chairman of the Mauritius Research Council, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the University of Mauritius.
