Objectives of CSM

To represent and cater for the professional needs of all chemists, providing various activities and services that encompass the chemical profession in Mauritius.

To promote and disseminate knowledge among members and to arouse the interest of the general public for chemical matters.

To promote research in the field of chemistry both in public and private institutions/companies at national level.

To sensitize policy makers, to act as a consultative and advisory organ to the government and other non-governmental bodies on matters pertaining to chemical issues and to assist in sustainable development of the country.

To forge closer partnership among the society, the scientific community and the government.

To strengthen networking, to cooperate or affiliate with national, regional and international partners or institutions to promote capacity building and chemical development.

To perform any such other activity as may be consistent with the objects of the society.

Categories of Membership
CSM offers four categories of membership

Full Member

             Full membership is open to individuals with either of the following:

      • a bachelor's degree in a chemical science with three years of working experience.
      • an earned doctor’s degree in a chemical science.
      • a master’s degree in a chemical science.
      • less formal training than indicated above but having significant achievement in a chemical science.

Associate Member

             Associate membership is open to individuals who have not yet met the requirements for Full Membership. Associate Members receive the same member benefits as a Full Member, excluding the ability to hold an elective office but they have the right to vote.

Student Member

             Student membership is opened to Bona Fide students majoring in a chemical science.  Student members do not have the right to vote nor to hold an elective office.

Honorary Member

             The Executive Committee may confer Honorary Membership on any person who is not   eligible to become a member of the Society on the basis of criteria enumerated above, but whose major vocational effort is directly concerned with the practice of science in general or has brought substantial assistance or support to the Society in fulfilling its objectives.  This category of members shall not pay any membership fees and shall not have the right to vote nor hold an elective office.

Membership dues

Full Member         : Rs 900/-
Associate Member: Rs 500/-
Student Member   : Rs 300
