The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) in conjunction with the UN and UNESCO have proclaimed the year 2011 to be the International Year of Chemistry (IYC 2011).
The goals of IYC 2011 are to:
Increase the public appreciation of chemistry

Encourage interest in chemistry among young people, and

Generate enthusiasm for the creative future of chemistry.
We, members of the Department of Chemistry of the University of Mauritius, are organising different activities in 2011 to contribute to this remarkable celebration.
Chemistry forms an integral part of our daily life and thus we are inviting everyone to participate actively in the activities. In case you have other ideas, feel free to discuss with us.
