Quality Assurance Office

Given the increasing importance of quality in Higher Education and the role assigned to Quality Assurance in the University’s Plan to be a leading International University, a Quality Assurance Office was set up in October 2002, to enhance further the Quality Assurance Framework and to streamline academic processes. After more than 15 years of implementation and three external reviews of its Quality Management Systems (in 2005, 2012 &2018), there was a need for the Office to broaden its scope and Goals to face new challenges and to align with its new vision to promote world-class teaching and learning and to keep abreast with International trends of Quality Assurance in Higher Education.

The Quality Assurance Office falls under the Office of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academia) and is headed by the Director, Dr (Ms) F. Khodabocus. The Director is supported by a Quality Assurance Officer, Ms S Chiniah, an Ag Administrative Officer, Mrs N Mudhoo, an Ag Executive Assistant, Mrs K Narajee and a Confidential Secretary, Mrs H Teeluckdharry.

The Office is presently situated on the 6th floor of Academic Complex Tower Block, University of Mauritius.

The main role of the Director, Quality Assurance, are to:

  • provide leadership for Quality Assurance and Good Practice at the University;
  • lead the development and the implementation of University-wide basis policy in Quality Assurance;
  • lead, co-ordinate and support Quality Assurance and the Enhancement Management System across the University;
  • contribute in the identification, development and promotion of the University's aims and objectives in the Strategic Directions; and
  • contribute to the formulation and implementation of the University's Quality Assurance and Enhancement Policies and Practices by monitoring same across the University and in collaborative partner institutions, where appropriate.
