The Tertiary Education Commission has approved, in principle, to provide a Research Grant of Rs4Million to the University of Mauritius for the financing of research activities for the financial year 2016/2017.

This year, the research grant will be used to fund innovative projects that will respond to the needs and priorities of Mauritius, having potential impact on the local scene. The five major focus areas, as set out by Government, are:

  • Information and Communication Technologies
  • Life Sciences/Biotechnology
  • Ocean Economy/Blue Economy
  • Renewable Energy
  • Social Sciences

In this context, interested academic staff members are invited apply for funding of project proposals in any one of the above mentioned focus areas.

Priority will be given to innovative project proposals from teams of academics and technical staff from different Faculties/Departments of the UoM.

Five innovative research proposals will be selected for funding to the tune of Rs800,000/- per project.

START DATE AND DURATION OF PROJECT

Selected projects should start by end of May 2017 and should be of a maximum duration of 18 months.
