Message from the Head of Department

Welcome to the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEED) at the University of Mauritius.

Our Department has been at the forefront of engineering education in Mauritius, contributing significantly to the nation’s technological development and industrial growth. We take pride in producing highly competent engineers who continue to drive innovation and progress, both locally and internationally.

EEED offers three dynamic undergraduate programmes:

  • BEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering
  • BEng (Hons) Telecommunications Engineering with Networking
  • BEng (Hons) Mechatronics Engineering (in collaboration with Mechanical & Production Engineering Department)

Each programme is designed to provide strong theoretical foundations combined with practical, industry-relevant skills. Our curricula are continuously reviewed to align with emerging technologies, global standards, and professional expectations.

Quality assurance and international recognition are central to our mission. The BEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering programme received accreditation from the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) in June 2024, while the BEng (Hons) Telecommunications Engineering with Networking programme was granted a five-year accreditation with no deficiencies following the 2023 visit by the Institution of Engineers Mauritius – Engineering Accreditation Board (IEM-EAB). These achievements reflect the academic rigour and professional standards upheld within the Department.

At postgraduate level, the fully online MSc Renewable Energy and Smart Electrical Systems was recently launched and attracted a record number of applicants in its first year, reflecting the growing demand for expertise in sustainable energy and smart technologies.

Our academic staff bring together expertise across power systems, renewable energy, telecommunications, networking, machine learning, embedded systems, and automation. Through active research, industry collaboration, and international partnerships, we foster a vibrant learning environment that integrates innovation, sustainability, and entrepreneurship.

Beyond technical excellence, we are committed to developing engineers who are ethically grounded, adaptable, and globally engaged. Our students benefit from hands-on laboratory experience, industry exposure, research opportunities, and participation in professional activities such as IEEE and technical conferences.

As Head of Department—and as the first woman to hold this position in EEED’s history—I am proud of the Department’s legacy and excited about its future. We remain dedicated to nurturing talent, advancing research, and contributing meaningfully to national and global technological progress.

We invite you to explore our programmes and join us in building a smarter, more sustainable, and connected world.
