Dean's Message

On Behalf the Faculty of Law and Management Community, I welcome you to our Faculty!

The Faculty of Law and Management (FLM) is the largest Faculty of the University of Mauritius, despite remaining a relatively young Faculty, yet with a great potential. It aspires to consolidate and improve its status in the country and also to be recognized as one of the leading Faculty in the region. FLM offers a relatively large number of undergraduate programmes, around 8 post graduate courses as well as doctoral programmes in the broad area of Finance, Accounting, Business and Law. The Faculty has been one of the most important providers and feeder of graduates to the industry and has a close collaboration with a number of well established companies in Mauritius. The Faculty hosts three departments namely the Department of Finance and Accounting, Department of Management and Department of Law, with highly committed and qualified academic staff who are engaged in teaching and learning, research as well as outreach and consultancy activities. It is interesting to note that a few of our undergraduate programmes are already accredited with reputed bodies such as ACCA and CIMA, ICAEW among others and the Faculty is exploring the possibility of accrediting other programmes. To enrich learning and to connect our students with the industry, the Faculty often calls on industry professionals to teach on its various programmes and has also introduced professional workshops in most of its programmes. Students are also required to undergo practical training as part of the programme curriculum, often supported by the University Industry Liaison Office (UILO). The Faculty is committed to quality assurance, for instance through the recruitment of high calibre external examiners from reputed Universities for all our programmes and also through accreditation of our courses.

FLM is actively engaged in research in various fields, with many of its academic staff publishing their research in reputed international academic journals (and books), supervising doctoral students and securing external research grants from donors. It also remains a regular feature of the Faculty to organize high profile international research conferences and workshops, attracting high calibre international researchers and speakers. Staff are also regularly called upon to engage in professional consultancies, both at national and international level.

The Faculty is also committed to reach out to its stakeholders and the society in general and usually organizes research dissemination and capacity building activities. This is in addition to various social events which are organized by our students in collaboration with FLM staff.

Our numerous dynamic student’s clubs (The Accounting Finance Society, The Law Society, The Management Society, The HR Management society, Women society among others), working closely with Faculty members, also contributes in FLM’s outreach activities while providing extra curriculum and networking opportunities for its members. Such experiences provide valuable opportunities to develop leadership and other key skills, build lasting friendships thus enhancing student experience.

Thank you for choosing the Faculty of Law and Management for your studies.
