On February 11, Mrs. Yang Fang and Dr. Kistamah, the Directors of the Confucius Institute at the University of Mauritius, attended the 2026 Spring Festival Gala at Lycée des Mascareignes. The gala was held in the high school auditorium, starting with a speech by the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Mauritius, Her Excellency Dr Huang Shifang. The Cultural Counsellor of the French Embassy in Mauritius, Mr Quentin Biehler, was also present for the occasion.

Ambassador Huang noted that the Spring Festival is a shared celebration in both China and Mauritius, reflecting deep cultural and historical ties. She encouraged Mauritian youth to learn more about China, master Chinese, and actively participate in bilateral exchanges.
Students from Lycée des Mascareignes then performed a variety of shows, including a skit, "The Theft of the Mona Lisa", a classic Chinese folk song Kangding Love Song, and others. Among them, Emeline Gabrielle JATA (Wu Limin), who represented Mauritius in the 2025 "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition for Secondary School Students and won the third prize globally, stood out as the event’s chief planner, host, and performer of the dance Blue and White Porcelain.
After the event, the high school Chinese teacher thanked the Confucius Institute for its ongoing support to Chinese language education and cultural experiences. The Institute’s directors pledged to maintain close collaboration with Lycée des Mascareignes, enhancing Chinese education and introducing more traditional Chinese culture to campus, and further promoting educational and cultural exchanges between China and Mauritius.
