On April 8, Confucius Institute at University of Mauritius launched the Chinese calligraphy course, attracting nearly 40 participants from both the University and the wider community.
Through carefully designed instruction and hands-on practice, students were introduced to the fundamentals of calligraphy and experienced the artistic charm of Chinese culture. Participants are drawn to Chinese calligraphy because it serves as a unique intersection of language learning, artistic expression, and well-being. Unlike standard handwriting, calligraphy is considered a "soul-nourishing" practice that offers benefits beyond just writing. Besides revealing the visual and symbolic meaning behind characters, the practice of calligraphy enhances focus, concentration and patience. It requires intense concentration on brush pressure and ink flow, which trains the person to slow down and stay present. For many, it is a way to connect with Chinese traditional values like harmony and discipline.
