On 13th February 2023, an online talk was held to introduce scholarships in China and began at 7pm (local time in Mauritius) via ZOOM video conference. The Confucius Institute at the University of Mauritius organized the talk, with the following speakers: Professor Fu Mingduan, Chinese Director; Dr. Dharma Kistamah, Local Director; Miss Sharon Too, Local Mandarin teacher, Miss Li Xiaoxia, Chinese Mandarin teacher of the Confucius Institute; and Mr Shariad Korumtallee, an alumni of Zhejiang Sci-Tech University and recipient of ZSTU President Scholarship. The online scholarship talk was well attended by students from the UoM, CI-UoM, and other Mauritians who are interested in studying in China.
Professor Fu Mingduan, CI-UoM Chinese Director spoke about the continuous development of the institute, courses taught and various cultural and academic activities being carried out. Miss Sharon Too, the local Mandarin teacher talked about the reasons for studying in China such as the development of international education in China, high cost-effective learning through affordable tuition fees and cost of living, a unique cultural experience on campus and in China, China as a safe, comfortable and convenient study destination. She introduced in detail the two scholarships, including the basic information, relevant application requirements, degrees and programs offered, and a comparison of the two scholarships.
Miss Li Xiaoxia, a Mandarin teacher at the Confucius Institute, gave a step-by-step explanation of the application procedure. She explained how to seek assistance and deal with some issues that may arise in the application process through the website.
Shortly after, Mr Shariad Korumtallee shared his personal experience and impressions about studying at ZSTU, and the audience had a first-hand account of what it is to study in China. He related his rich experience and in-depth understanding of life as an international student at ZSTU.
