The 15th Chinese Bridge Global Competition for Secondary School Students kicked off on 12th October 2022. The finalist, Laurie Hiu Thian Yuen, represented Mauritius in the International Finals. After intense competition, Laurie Hiu Thian Yuen was selected among the Top 30 worldwide to compete in the intercontinental round.
On 11th November, Laurie Hiu Thian Yuen participated in the intercontinental round of the 15th Chinese Bridge Competition for secondary school students. In the second part, Laurie's speech about her grandmother’s love received the highest score from the audience. In the end, she was ranked first in the African continent and was selected among the Top 15 worldwide.

On 15th November, Laurie Hiu Thian Yuen began competing with finalists from five continents. During the online questions and answers session, the contestants were introduced to the National Museum of China, the Forbidden City Museum and the Guo Shou Jing Museum through videos. They also watched live performances of Tai Chi, Beijing Opera and Lion Dance, a visual feast of Chinese culture for contestants. Unfortunately, Laurie Hiu Thian Yuen was not selected for the grand final after the Q&A sessions, which marked the end of her journey on the Chinese Bridge. When asked about her experience in participating in the Chinese Bridge, she said, “I am very happy to have taken part in the Chinese Bridge Competition, I learned a lot and got a lot of practice.” Laurie Hiu Thian Yuen, being among the Top 15 worldwide, was awarded the second prize in the finals of the 15th Chinese Bridge Competition for Secondary School Students. She also received a scholarship to study in China for one year and a round-trip air ticket.

The Chinese Bridge is a major international Chinese language competition organized by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC). In 2022, it is the first time for Confucius Institute at the University of Mauritius to host Chinese Bridge Competition. With the support of the Chinese Embassy in Mauritius, the University of Mauritius, Zhejiang Sci-Tech University, and other teaching organizations in Mauritius, the 21st Chinese Bridge Competition for University Students and the 15th Chinese Bridge Competition for Secondary School Students were successfully concluded in Mauritius.
