Mr Soobeeraj Parmessa, PhD Candidate at OUM is investigating the implementation of Chinese studies within the Upper Secondary School curriculum in Mauritius. The research investigation is in line with the Ministry of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology (Mauritius) all encompassing philosophy and vision whereby it aims at “pedagogic innovative curriculum” and makes provision for “a new opportunity for stretching students’ ability to a higher level as part of their educational journey towards excellence with rich variety of learning experiences”. Implementation of Chinese Studies will act as curricula test beds and assuredly better prepare secondary schools students to cope with the world demands and make them more open minded-informed citizens of the world.

The aim of the Doctoral research is to bring innovative changes to the upper secondary school curriculum which will open up teenagers/young-adult students of 16-19 years to the multi-faceted aspects of China while exploring Chinese Studies. The research is self-funded and fully supported by Confucius Institute (University of Mauritius) under the supervision of Professor Zhang Kangfu and assisted by Lecturer Li Xiaoxia.
