The Second Board Meeting of the Confucius Institute at University of Mauritius was held on the 07th December 2018 at ZSTU, Hangzhou, China and was hosted by Zhejiang Sci-Tech University. The meeting was chaired by Professor Fengmin WU, Chair of ZSTU Council. The members of the Board present were: Associate Professor Mohammad SANTALLY, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Planning & Resources, UoM; Associate Professor Naraindra KISTAMAH, Mauritian Director of CI-UoM; Associate Professor Xudong TAN, Chinese Director of CI-UoM; Mr Xiang FU, Director of ZSTU International Exchange & Cooperation Office; and Professor Xiaofen JI, Chair of Executive committee and Dean of ZSTU School of International Education. The other attendees were representatives from ZSTU and they were: Mrs Zhongmei JIANG, Director of the Office of CI, School of International Education; Ms Congyu BAO, Staff of ZSTU School of International Education.
Professor WU welcomed all board members and invited Mr Tan Xudong, Chinese Director of Confucius Institute at UoM to present the Annual and Financial reports of 2018. The CI Dircetor highlighted the major achievements of Confucius Institute at University of Mauritius and the expenses incurred. Dr. Kistamah, Mauritian Director, elaborated on the activities carried out in 2018, and thanked both universities for the support given to CI-UoM. He highlighted three main goals of CI-UoM for 2019; i.e. (i) to offer ‘Mandarin Language’ as a credit module to as many programme of studies as possible; (ii) to reach out more to the community and business sector; and (iii) to manage resources optimally and become increasingly sustainable financially.
Professor WU, Chairman of the Council of ZSTU and the Chair of the Board, praised the work accomplished by CI-UoM in 2018 and congratulated both partner universities. He hopes that the Confucius Institute at University of Mauritius could host the ‘Joint Conference of Confucius Institutes in Africa’ in the near future, become a model CI with recognition at the next Global CI Conference and continue to develop and become stronger.
All the members were given a copy of the annual and financial reports of 2018, CI-UoM work plan for 2019 and its corresponding budget. The Board discussed the annual and financial reports of 2018, the work plan and budget for 2019. The proposed work plan and budget were thought to be comprehensive and the Board approved the annual and financial reports of 2018, the work plan and budget for 2019 during the meeting.
