On 03th Dec 2019, eight staff of UoM and two staff of Ravenala Attitude Hotel left for China to participate in the second Winter Camp organized by CI-UoM and hosted by ZSTU. They were accommodated at the Shujiang Hotel, Jianggan District, Hangzhou.

The programme for the winter camp started with a visit to Wuzhen, the permanent venue for the Global Internet Conference since 2014. Wuzhen is a historic scenic town which is located in the north of Zhejiang Province. It displays its history through its ancient stone bridges and pathways, museums and splendid wood carvings. The delegates overnight stayed in Wuzhen and visited Nanhu District, Jiaxing City, north of Zhejiang Province on the following day. Nanhu is close to both Shanghai airport and seaport.

The participants to the Winter Camp attended Chinese classes in the morning, participated in and attended cultural activities such as the impressive show entitled ‘Dreams in Zhejiang Province’ organized by university students. They visited umbrella, fan and scissors museums in Hangzhou, cultural places in Jinshan countryside, made dumplings in a village, visited the Grand Canal of Hangzhou which is often lauded as ‘the earliest and longest artificial waterway in the world starting from Beijing in the north and ending at Hangzhou in the south for a total length of 1776 km’; West Lake with its numerous templespagodasgardens, and parks. They also visited a primary school near Zhejiang University where they interacted with the enthusiastic pupils, popular shopping malls and cultural places.

The Dean of Faculty of Engineering, Associate Professor D. K. Hurreeram, interacted fruitfully with counterparts at ZSTU; namely Dean of School of Materials Science and Engineering and Dean of School of Mechanical Engineering and Automation and is very confident of future collaborations and exchanges between the Faculty and the Schools.

The participants thoroughly enjoyed the programme set out for them. They have acquired an enriching experience of Chinese hospitality and culture.
