The Celebration of 3rd Anniversary of Confucius Institute at University of Mauritius, Nov 2019

On 23rd November 2019, the celebration of the 3rd anniversary of Confucius Institute at University of Mauritius was held at the auditorium of the University of Mauritius. The packed audience comprised of CI students and teachers, representatives from the Chinese Embassy, guests from Chinese Chamber of Commerce, and the public.

The celebration started with a short video highlighting the development of Confucius Institute at University of Mauritius since its establishment three years ago. It was then followed by a series of performances organized by CI-UoM teachers and students. Over 400 students took part in the celebrations. The Chinese dances, ‘Porcelain’ and ‘Go Northwards’, presented some aspects of the traditional charm of Chinese people. A volunteer Chinese teacher played the ‘hulushi’, a traditional Chinese flute which is a free reed musical instrument and a little girl played the Chinese traditional musical instrument, the ‘guzheng’. Other students read Chinese ancient poems and sang Chinese love songs, which aroused the audience’s appreciation of Chinese culture.

Another feature of the celebrations was the fashion show performed by CI-UoM students wearing Chinese and Indian costumes. The fashion apparels reflected the unique beauty of the costumes from two different cultures. The celebration was also an opportunity for the CI-UoM students to thank Confucius Institute for the assistance, support, opportunity to study in and visit China, to learn Mandarin and to enhance their appreciation of Chinese culture. The packed audience gave rousing appreciation to all for delivering an entertaining and engaging anniversary celebration.

At the end of the celebration, Mauritian Director, Mr. Naraindra Kistamah and Chinese Director, Mr. Tan Xudong, expressed their sincere thanks to all the invitees, the teachers and students of CI for their participation. They wish that Confucius Institute at University of Mauritius continue to fulfill its role of promoting Chinese language and culture, academic exchanges between UoM and Chinese Universities and the reinforcement of cooperation between Mauritius and China.
