Visit of H.E. Che Jun to the University of Mauritius - 19 June 2018

On 19th June 2018, His Excellency Che Jun, Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Zhejiang Provincial Committee, and his delegation were warmly welcomed by the Chancellor of the University of Mauritius. On the occasion, CI-UoM held a photo exhibition about Zhejiang province.

Since the opening of the Confucius Institute at University of Mauritius, the two parties have carried out a wealth of cultural exchanges and activities. The University of Mauritius has a strong partnership with the Zhejiang Sci-Tech University, China following the establishment of the Confucius Institute at the UoM. The visit further deepens the ties between the two institutions and provide an opportunity to enhance the quality of education and activities at the Confucius Institute, UoM.

As a follow up of the consensus reached between H.E. Mr. Che Jun and the Confucius Institute at the University of Mauritius, the Department of Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs of Zhejiang Provincial People’s Government offered to assist the Confucius Institute in setting up a multimedia classroom to support teaching and learning of Mandarin language in Mauritius and promote educational cooperation between Mauritius and China. In addition, four students of CI-UoM were offered Master Scholarships to study at ZSTU for the academic year 2018-2020.

On the occasion, the Chairman of ZSTU and the Vice-Chancellor of UoM signed a research collaboration agreement in the area of Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering, in the presence of H.E. Che Jun. His Excellency awarded the flag of summer camp to CI Directors. The Chinese CI Director led a delegation of 20 CI-UoM students to Hangzhou, China, from 19 June to 02 July 2018.

As a Chinese saying goes, “if you think in terms of a decade, plant trees; if in terms of a century, educate people”. CI-UoM promise to give continuous support to cultural exchanges between Mauritius and Zhejiang Province, and cultivate more talents for the strengthening of friendly ties between Mauritius and China.
