Innovator Hall of Fame: MORISIA 2.0 (15th May 2025)

We are pleased to share that the MORISIA 2.0 project funded by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) under the Interdisciplinary/Interinstitutional Team-Based Research scheme was shortlisted for the National Innovator Hall of Fame (NIHOF) 2025 under the category “Best Innovator – Public Organisations”. This national recognition, conferred by the Mauritius Research and Innovation Council (MRIC), highlights outstanding innovation within government and parastatal institutions. The project, titled “MORISIA 2.0: Translation of Kreol Repiblik Moris to English and English to Kreol Repiblik Moris using Natural Language Processing and Deep Neural Machine Translation Techniques”, is led by Associate Professor Dr. Sameerchand Pudaruth as the Principal Investigator. The pitch was presented by a team comprising Associate Professor Dr. Sameerchand Pudaruth, and Associate Professor Dr. Sheeba Armoogum, both from the Department of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), the University of Mauritius along with Dr. Aneerav Sukhoo. 

Moreover, the research outcomes from MORISIA 2.0 have also been published in a Scopus-indexed Q2 journal – International Journal of Artificial Intelligence (IJAI).
