Dear Students

Welcome to the Department of Management of the Faculty of Law& Management of the University of Mauritius!

In the modern era, it is crucial for organisations to manage their scarce resources and strategic marketing of goods and services better than the competitors and grow their digital business strategy. The new business environment has been triggered by the adoption of digital acceleration, disruptive digital technologies and virtual reality and innovations, cut-throat business competition and in particular the current economic challenges caused by the post COVID-19 pandemic in all the major global business sectors. At the Department of Management, we prepare students for rewarding careers in the world of business.

On this premise, the Department of Management is saddled with the responsibilities of managing core business and specialisations in management, marketing, human resources, international business, ethics and corporate governance, digital marketing and technologies, entrepreneurship and small business start-up, tourism and hospitality management. These undergraduate and post graduate degree programmes have been developed by professional curriculum developers and discipline experts to meet the current needs of the global economic sectors and future demand. As a leading, dynamic and specialised department, we have carefully crafted and focused on our core competencies in meeting the needs of our main stakeholders. Without management programmes, there would be few successful managers capable of operating a business in today’s constantly evolving economy. In this vein, we have also modified the narrative and the direction of our academic degree programmes offerings to cope with the volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA) dynamic world.

Programmes in management studies are important because without the skills needed to compete with competitors and deal with external changes it is easier to fail than succeed. The Department of Management aims at ensuring that our students achieve theoretical and practical skills in business not only by face to face meeting in class but also through a series of research, field study, student activities, seminars, and community service agendas. We have also developed innovative online teaching tools which has proved to be very effective during the lockdown and is still well appreciated by students. We have successfully managed and improved the quality of our learning and teaching delivery during the COVID-19 pandemic via online and hybrid options to manage the scenario in post COVID-19 age.

To fulfil the expectations of our stakeholders and especially our students, we have carefully attracted highly talented academic staff who are goal-getters, dedicated and committed to impacting knowledge, skills, competencies and attributes that build confidence required for our current and prospective students. Members of the Department focus not only on their own respective fields of expertise but also engage in inter-disciplinary and international collaborations.

We value collegiality and collaboration and, at the same time, welcome diversity of opinion and rigorous academic discourse among our colleagues. Moreover, the Department of Management is strategically positioned to deliver cutting-edge research output that addresses local, regional and global business challenges and issues affecting society well-being and community outreach projects.

Dear Students, please rest assured that you are in the right hands at the Department of Management. We extend a warm welcome to our local and international students as well as doctorate and research fellows to collaborate and build a more prosperous future with us!

Thank you for your continued support as our valuable partners.
