Project title  Strengthening Disaster Resilience: IoT-Based Early Warning System Capacity Building for NGOs, CSOs &Government Officers in Mauritius and Madagascar. (MUS-2014 UoM)
Project  Summary       Small Island Developing States (SIDS) such as Mauritius and Madagascar face increasing vulnerability to the impacts of climate change, including floods, cyclones, droughts, and soil erosion. Their geographical isolation, limited resources, and growing population pressures heighten the risk of human, economic, and environmental losses. Communities often lack the technical capacity and institutional frameworks needed for proactive disaster risk reduction (DRR). Moreover, there is a clear gap in the use of modern technology particularly Internet of Things (IoT), Robotics and data-driven systems for real-time monitoring and early warning in Mauritius and Madagascar. Many NGOs, CSOs, and government agencies lack the skills, infrastructure, and cross-country collaboration to implement these technologies effectively. Through the IoT deployment and capacity-building, an open real-time dashboard, and sustained community outreach, these the Land Drainage Master Plan (LDMP) measures become practical, data-driven operations and community safety practice. This project therefore aims to address these capacity gaps, strengthen institutional coordination, and build resilience among vulnerable communities in both Mauritius and Madagascar.
