UoM Alumnus Vashish Jaunky Shortlisted for Commonwealth Short Story Prize 2025!
We are proud to announce that Vashish Jaunky, a graduate of BA (Hons) French Studies, has been shortlisted for the prestigious and global Commonwealth Short Story Prize 2025 — the only Mauritian on this year’s shortlist!
His French manuscript, "Le soleil n’est pas encore mort" ("The Sun is not Dead Yet"), captured the attention of the international jury and secured his place among the 25 finalists out of 7,920 participants worldwide!
This recognition is a moment of great pride for the Department of French Studies, the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, and the University of Mauritius.
Born and raised along the Mauritian coast, Vashish is a rising creative writer whose work blends language, art, and introspection. His writing has been featured in Indigo Le Mag, Short Éditions, and he was also shortlisted for the Prix du Jeune Écrivain (2024).
He was recently showcased at the Youth Spotlight Festival at the Caudan Arts Centre, and continues to explore Mauritius’ cultural landscape through both journalism and artistic expression.
Congratulations to Vashish!
