Celebrating Inclusive Education & Community Empowerment! Award Ceremony - 23 July 2025
On 23 July 2025, the Faculty of Agriculture at UoM, in partnership with F.A.L.C.O.N (Farmers in Agriculture, Livestock, Cooperative, Organic Network) and supported by the National Social Inclusion Foundation (NSIF), hosted a vibrant Award Ceremony marking the culmination of a five-day “Advanced Food Processing” training.
Thirty‑five participants from across Mauritius, representing diverse ages and backgrounds, gathered to elevate local skills, food quality, and safety.
We were honoured by the presence of His Excellency Mr D. Gokhool, GCSK (President of the Republic of Mauritius) and Dr the Hon. Arvin Boolell (Minister of Agro‑Industry, Food Security, Blue Economy & Fisheries), whose attendance emphasized the power of grassroots capacity‑building in forging a resilient, sustainable food sector.
Speeches by Vice‑Chancellor Prof S. K. Sobhee, Assoc Prof J Govinden Soulange (Dean of Agriculture), Assoc Prof Daya Goburdhun (Training Coordinator), and F.A.L.C.O.N President highlighted how inclusive education breaks down barriers and drives social equity.
Our resource team consisting of Assoc Prof Daya Goburdhun, Assoc Prof S Santchurn, and Dr D Ramful Baboolall, led hands‑on sessions that empowered participants with practical expertise.
This landmark initiative reaffirms UoM’s role as a catalyst for change, ensuring that knowledge and skills are accessible to all, regardless of socio‑economic status or geographic location.
