University of Mauritius Promotes Student Wellness through Ayurveda Awareness and Walk

The University of Mauritius held a Student Sensitization Workshop and Ayurveda Walk on 3 September 2026, under the Know Ayurveda Campaign of the Ayush Information Cell, High Commission of India, Mauritius, as part of the activities leading up to Ayurveda Day 2026.

Organised in collaboration with the Cancer Association of Mauritius (CANMA), VIT Mauritius and Abhyas Institute of Universal Awareness, the programme brought together students to explore Ayurveda, healthy living, cancer prevention awareness and mental well-being.

Dr Pooja Sabharwal, Ayurveda Chair at the UoM, highlighted the relevance of Ayurveda to preventive health and introduced interdisciplinary opportunities in education, research and entrepreneurship for students across medicine, agriculture, food sciences, biotechnology, engineering, law and social sciences. Contributions from the collaborating organisations further enriched the programme.

The Ayurveda Walk encouraged physical activity and collective participation, reinforcing the importance of everyday choices in supporting health and well-being.

The initiative benefited from the support of the Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice-Chancellors, Registrar, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, University staff and Students’ Union.

Sincere appreciation is extended to all partners and participating students for their contribution to the event.
