


The University of Mauritius has maintained its reputation as the leading research and innovation institution locally. UoM research is defined by its internationalism, innovation and impact whilst celebrating diversity of individuals and ideas. The quality of research conducted at UoM has been recognized through the increasing number of external research funding and consultancy projects attracted by our academics. Many articles of our academics are listed among the ‘most read and most cited articles’ while some of our academics have been recognised by Clarivate as world leading scientists in the ‘Highly Cited Researchers’ list of 2022, a testament to the high calibre and impact of their research at global level.
The office of Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academia) aims at supporting and nurturing a research environment that is defined by a culture of integrity, good governance, best practice where researchers can be bold, challenge the boundaries of their fields, and feel supported in judicious risk-taking. The Doctoral School, the Poles of Research Excellence (PREs), Poles of Innovation, Centres and several Units at the University such as the University Industry Liaison Office UILO, the UoM Incubator, the UoM AgriTech Park have been set up in view of providing a conducive environment for research & innovation. Research collaborations with local and international partners on externally funded projects are encouraged by means of Memoranda of Understanding and Research Collaboration Agreements.
Our Unit dedicated to Research matters, assist the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academia) in the following main functions which include inter alia
· Promulgating and developing new research policies, overseeing and leading the implementation of policies and practices with respect to research and innovation;
· Providing leadership, support on a broad spectrum of research support services as well as expert strategic guidance on the regulatory compliance requirements;
· Provide financial and operational oversight in collaboration with the UoM Finance Section
· Promoting a vibrant research and innovation culture by encouraging interdisciplinary collaborations, partnerships with industry, government and international organisations
· Enhancing the University’s performance and reputation in research, ensuring a global outlook for our research, via research training, positive engagement in international research funding and networks.
· Growing our research income and ensuring continued enhancement of the research services, benefiting all members of our diverse research community at all stages of their academic career.
· Organising and facilitating research related activities at University level e.g. conferences, yearly research week, workshops
· Launching and Processing Call for Applications for the different types of Research Funding Schemes each year.
We look into and process all matters related to research, under the purview of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academia), including research grants/schemes, research publication incentive schemes, payment of research publication allowance to academics as per PRB recommendations, research collaborative agreements, inter-institutional agreements (research aspects), managing and monitoring of internally and externally funded projects, in close collaboration with the Finance Section.
