Centre of Excellence - Green Development and Sustainability

The University of Mauritius (UoM) officially launched the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Green Development and Sustainability on 10 September 2026, marking an important step in strengthening the University’s contribution to sustainable development, research and innovation.

The launch ceremony was attended by Dr. the Hon. Kaviraj Sharma Sukon, Minister of Tertiary Education, Science and Research, and Prof. (Dr) Romeela Mohee, CSK, Commissioner of the Higher Education Commission (HEC).

The Centre will serve as a platform for  interdisciplinary research, education and capacity building,  innovation, and collaboration, contributing to national, regional and global sustainability priorities. It seeks to bring together expertise from different disciplines and foster collaboration with government, industry, academia and other stakeholders.

Key Collaborators

Africa–Europe Cluster of Research Excellence (CoRE) on the Politics of Sustainable Development (Pol4Sus)

The Centre will collaborate with Pol4Sus, co-led by the University of Oslo and the University of Pretoria under the ARUA–The Guild alliance partnership. The collaboration will promote research, education, and innovation addressing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

SOAS, University of London

The Centre will also work with SOAS, University of London, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science and Research. The partnership will support joint research and the co-development of executive programmes.

Through these strategic partnerships, the CoE aims to foster knowledge exchange, transformative research and innovative solutions for a greener and more sustainable future.
